You probably think this tread is about the our buddy, BUT it's actually about the song.

I Pulled up 5-17-74 from Vancouver, BC.

Just a sweet, sweet Dire Wolf.

PLUS, a VERY rare Money Money, which I have yet to hear live....

Just the Mars Hotel version...

Added Salt Lake City soundcheck bonus!

Is Money Money the one that starts with a line about God making women out of Adam's rib?

Money, Money
As performed by the Grateful Dead

My baby gives me the finance blues, Tax me to the limit of my revenues.
Here she comes finger-poppin', clickety-click
She says furs or diamonds, you take your pick.

She wants money, what she wants, She wants money, what she wants,
She wants money, what she wants, She wants money, what she wants,
Money money, money money money. Money money, money money money.

She say, "Money, honey", I'd rob a bank,
I just load my gun and mosey down to the bank.
Knockin' off my neighborhood savings and load,
To keep my sweet chiquita in eau de cologne.

She wants money, what she wants, She wants money, what she wants,
Money money, money money money. Money money, money money money.

Mama don't send me down to rob that bank again,
I got a notion that your leadin' me to sin.
Won't you relax, won't you lay way back,
Don't you bug your honey 'bout no Cadillac.
It's only bucks, you don't need no jack.
So won't you please relax and lay way back.

My baby's lovin' gives me such a thrill;
It gives me inspiration makin' counterfeit bills.
Now some folks say the best things in life are free,

She wants money, what she wants, She wants money, what she wants,
Money money, money money money. Money money, money money money.

Lord made a lady out of Adam's rib, next thing you know, you got women's lib.
Lovely to look upon, Heaven to touch;
It's a real shame that they got to cost so much.

Money Money had a case of very bad timing as it bumped into the new era of political correctness, My favorite part of this song live was Donna belting out "What she wants!" So many Heads trash her but I liked her red neck ways.

05-17-1974 is sweet, also check out 10-19-1974 for the sister version that is just as sweet...

one of my favorite versions is 12-30-1981, nothin crazy, just well played...

at my penultimate show, 07-02-1995, Garcia actually whipped up a nice version, it comes off quite well on tape...was rather appropo considering the brain numbing riot that was transpiring around us...

According to Blair Jackson's book, on 7/2/95 the Dead received what they considered to be a serious death threat against Jerry. Phil was all for packing up and going home, but Jerry said "hell no!" The cops set up metal detectors at the gates, which probably contributed to the tension outside. Jerry's response was to go on stage and sing "Dire Wolf" to his would-be assassin: "Please, don't murder me!" I guess it worked.

I like the 12/30/81 too. I copied my cassettes from reel to reel and ended up with the Dire Wolf at the end of side 1 and begining of side2... Just left it that way, was always worth listening to twice! Always loved the whole show...

After seeing the "zappa" show the other night, I may have to start calling you Zombie Woof or at least Dire Woof from now on.

Huh? Just got lost in the show and dinner and logged-on to find your posts. Cool. Thanks everybody.

Eyes jammin' now. I picked this for tonight because of the last 6 songs. A unique finish...No Chuck Berry or the like....

Update: Dude, "Eyes jamming now"...total understatement...."yer soaking in it"...is more like it....ok, back to the beer....
